Education, Evaluation, and Research
The Survivorship Clinic at SCCA is dedicated to providing education and support to patients and family members. We provide:
- Individualized education through appointments in the SCCA Survivorship Clinic
- Lectures and talks at cancer center conferences and community events that address survivorship issues and healthy living recommendations
- Sharing of our expertise at local and national conferences
We are equally dedicated to educating health-care professionals and provide:
- Treatment summaries and survivorship care plans to assist them in following your care
- Continuing medical education opportunities in cancer survivorship
- Publications and presentations to keep their knowledge of survivorship issues current
Clinical Evaluation and Consultation
Additional benefits to the Survivorship Program include support services. We provide access to psychological counseling, nutrition, physical therapy, integrative medicine options, and other services at SCCA.
We will make appropriate referrals to local community cancer organizations on your behalf. And through our partnership with YMCA of Greater Seattle, we offer Exercise and Thrive, as 12-week exercise program designed for cancer survivors. More information can be found at www.fhcrc.org/exerciseandthrive.
Research
In addition to using the latest findings to guide the care provided to cancer survivors, the Survivorship Program team is dedicated to conducting research to learn more about the long-term and late effects of cancer treatment and to improve the quality of life for survivors.
Our researchers are involved in projects ranging from studying the long-term cardiovascular effects of cancer treatment, to examining the factors that determine emotional adjustment and quality of life.
Eligible survivors are invited to participate in research projects. As part of these efforts, all patients entering survivorship care are asked to complete a series of survivorship questionnaires about their physical, emotional, and medical experiences. The information is collected on an annual basis and helps us guide your survivorship care.
